About Mild Steel

Mild steel is a ferrous-based metal. All items are finished by hand, and treated with a natural sealer and then layers of paste wax. This provides a natural finish that mirrors natural steel finishes found throughout France since the 16th Century.

The items are subject to oxidation. To maintain the finish, occasionally apply paste wax on exposed surfaces in the same manner as caring for wood furniture. If you do not wish to maintain the finish, then stainless steel, not subject to oxidation, should be ordered. Custom powdercoat finishes are also available.

If oxidation occurs, use a metal cleaner such as "never dull" to remove the oxidation. Finish kits and complete instructions are available through MICHAEL SHANNON ASSOCIATES' sales office.
